The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is advancing its Red Sea Project to enhance maritime security and coordination in the Horn of Africa and Yemen. A four-day workshop was held from June 22 to 25, 2026, in Aden, Yemen, to develop a roadmap for establishing a National Maritime Information Sharing Center and a Regional Maritime Information Sharing Center. The IMO emphasized the need for these centers to adopt the 2023 Djibouti Code of Conduct/Jeddah Amendment Information Sharing Standard Operating Procedures, which require translation into Arabic. Concurrently, a project supported by Saudi Arabia, the UK, and EU donors aims to strengthen the
Yemeni Coast Guard, which faces internal power struggles and rising piracy threats. Relations between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia have deteriorated, complicating peace negotiations and increasing risks for maritime operations in the region.
